Michelle Arbuckle joins CFE Working Group on Intellectual Freedom
The Centre for Free Expression (CFE) at Toronto Metropolitan University announced today that Michelle Arbuckle is joining the CFE Working Group on Intellectual Freedom. The Working Group guides CFE’s work in assisting libraries across Canada in promoting and defending intellectual freedom and in resisting demands for censorship.
“Michelle Arbuckle’s extensive experience as a librarian, her long history of advocacy for intellectual freedom, and her impressive work at the Ontario Library Association will be helpful to the CFE’s work defending and promoting intellectual freedom, especially at this challenging time,” said CFE Director James L. Turk in announcing the appointment.
Michelle is Executive Director of the Ontario Library Association and Board Chair of the Book and Periodical Council. Previously she was the OLA’s Director, Education & Member Engagement. She has experience working in academic libraries (at Toronto Metropolitan University), in public libraries (at the Elgin County Public Library), in health libraries (at Princess Margaret Hospital), and at specialized libraries (as National Librarian for the Canadian Music Centre).
She received her Master of Library and Information Studies at Western University and her Bachelor of Music at Wilfrid Laurier University.
The Centre for Free Expression at Toronto Metropolitan University works to ensure that the rights to freedom of expression, informed civic engagement, individual self-development, and social justice are a reality for all through public education, advocacy, law reform, research, advisory services, policy analysis, assistance to courts, and organizational collaborations.
