BPC Bulletin: The Velshi Banned Book Club

News Reports and Commentary Selected by Franklin Carter of the Book and Periodical Council’s Freedom of Expression Committee.

In the United States, MSNBC’s Ali Velshi plans to launch the Velshi Banned Book Club this month.

In each episode of the podcast, a different author of a banned book—including Margaret Atwood, Nikole Hannah-Jones, Laurie Halse Anderson, George M. Johnson and others—joins Mr. Velshi to talk about why people try to ban their books and about the literature itself.

The first two episodes should air on August 24, 2023.

Thanks go to Mark Lindenberg who provided the news.

The Book and Periodical Council was formed in 1975 as the Book and Periodical Development Council to provide a venue for members to discuss industry issues, address mutual concerns and undertake projects for the benefit of Canadian writing and publishing.
