Alexandra Flynn
Alexandra Flynn is Assistant Professor at the Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia. Her teaching and research focuses on municipal law and governance, administrative law, property law, and experiential education.
Alex grew up in Iqaluit, Nunavut, and has more than ten years of experience practicing Aboriginal law and working in a senior municipal government role, including the representation of First Nation governments in the economic development of reserve lands, the drafting of land management agreements, and consultation and accommodation involving numerous governmental and corporate parties.
She recently began a SSHRC-funded project which seeks to understand the legal relationship between First Nations and municipal governments. The goal of this project is to illuminate the legal obligations of municipal governments, including the duty to consult and accommodate, to create reciprocal, respectful relationships with Indigenous peoples and First Nations.
Alex is a past TEDx speaker and a frequent media commentator. She has a long history of volunteer work in the areas of homelessness and access to justice.
