El Jones joins the Centre for Free Expression as a Senior Fellow

The Centre for Free Expression has named El Jones as its newest Senior Fellow. “We are delighted that El Jones is joining the Centre for Free Expression as a Senior Fellow,” said James L. Turk, the CFE’s director. “She has been a leading voice in Canada on human rights, antiracism, and social justice.”

Julian Sher Joins Centre for Free Expression as a Senior Fellow

Julian Sher, an award-winning TV documentary writer and director, journalist, newsroom trainer, and author, has joined the Centre for Free Expression (CFE) as a Senior Fellow. “Julian Sher is a remarkable journalist, author, and newsroom trainer,” said James L. Turk, the Centre’s director. “The scope of Julian’s work and his achievements are exceptional.”

CFE Names Ivor Shapiro Scholar-in-Residence

Ivor Shapiro has been appointed inaugural Scholar-in-Residence at the Centre for Free Expression (CFE) at Toronto Metropolitan University for 2022-23. The former chair of the School of Journalism at TMU, Shapiro will help lead the Centre’s expanding work on press freedom. “We are delighted to announce that Ivor Shapiro will be the CFE’s first Scholar in Residence,” said James L. Turk, CFE Director. “During the initial period as Scholar-In-Residence, he will be completing his new book on press freedom.”

Ian Bron named a CFE Senior Fellow

The Centre for Free Expression has named whistleblowing expert Ian Bron as its newest senior fellow.  “A long-time advocate for more robust whistleblower protection and a former Canadian whistleblower, Mr. Bron brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the work of the CFE,” said James L. Turk, the Centre’s Director.

Danielle MacKinlay Joins the CFE Working Group on Intellectual Freedom

Danielle MacKinlay, a long-time government librarian, is joining the Centre for Free Expression’s Working Group on Intellectual Freedom. Danielle has been Manager, Library Services for the Canadian Coast Guard since 2005. Currently, Danielle is on assignment in the Human Resources Corporate Services within Fisheries and Oceans Canada, as an advisor on employment equity, diversity and inclusion.
