Ivor Shapiro joins CFE as a senior fellow
Respected journalist and educator, Ivor Shapiro has joined Ryerson’s Centre for Free Expression (CFE) as a senior fellow. Shapiro is a former contributing editor of Saturday Night magazine and managing editor of Chatelaine and is a full professor and former chair of the School of Journalism at Ryerson University.
“We are delighted Ivor Shapiro has agreed to be a senior fellow of our Centre,” said James L. Turk, CFE Director. “His experience as a journalist, educator, and his expertise regarding professional practice and journalistic ethics will allow the Centre to move into important new areas of work.”
Turk also praised Shapiro’s commitment to press freedom at a time when it is seriously endangered.
Shapiro is a former chair of the ethics committee of the Canadian Association of Journalists and the founding editor of J-Source.
