Event Details
What does freedom of expression look like for Canadian kids? Disturbingly, it’s not very clear. Although our schools are supposed to be centres for learning critical thinking and citizenship, they impose significant restrictions on student expression. Why is there so little willingness in Canada by parents, schools, and courts to stand up for the rights of school-age students, especially free expression?
Join Danielle S. McLaughlin who will explore this issue in conjunction with the launch of her new kid’s book, Freedom of Expression: Deal with It Before You Are Censored. Following her talk, Danielle will be joined in conversation by Canadian Civil Liberties Association’s Cara Zwibel.
Speaker: Danielle S. McLaughlin – Director of Education, Emerita, Canadian Civil Liberties Association
Discussant: Cara Faith Zwibel, Director, Fundamental Freedoms Program, Canadian Civil Liberties Association
