Sharon Day

Sharon Day is the Chief Executive Officer of the award-winning Edmonton Public Library (EPL), where she leads a team of 700 employees and oversees a $ 75 million operating budget, serving Edmontonians across 21 branches.

With 17 years of service at EPL and extensive experience in public library leadership, Sharon brings deep institutional knowledge spanning branch operations, collections, customer experience, and organizational strategy. Drawing on this breadth of experience, she leads with a clear and purposeful vision for the Library's future, grounded in EPL's role as essential public infrastructure.

Sharon holds a Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) from the University of Alberta. Nationally, she has led digital content advocacy through the Canadian Urban Libraries Council and served on the Board of Directors of eBOUND Canada. Sharon also co-led the development of national intellectual freedom training for public library staff, in partnership with the University of Alberta and the Centre for Free Expression.

Sharon is a committed advocate for intellectual freedom, equitable access to information, and customer-focused public service. She is dedicated to fostering a culture of learning and innovation, building meaningful community partnerships, and ensuring the Library remains a place where everyone can belong, discover, and thrive.
