Mariette Pilon
Mariette Pilon is a lawyer, member of the Quebec Bar since 1975, who throughout her career has represented employees and unions both in private practice and as in-house legal counsel. She has served as in-house counsel for the Syndicat des employées et employés professionnels-les et de bureau, affiliated to the Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec (FTQ) and General Counsel for the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT).
Through her litigation work and her participation as a lecturer in union education workshops she has been involved in debates concerning privacy rights in the workplace, surveillance, collection of data by providers of services, use of wearable devices, the role of data brokers, and monetisation of employee data.
She is currently working on issues related to the impact of digital technologies in the workplace, the collection of various types of data through sensors and wearable devices, the use of de-identified data, the development of artificial intelligence systems and tools, and the regulation of data collected and produced by these systems and tools.
