Sharon Day joins the CFE Advisory Board

Sharon Day, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Edmonton Public Library (EPL), is joining the Centre for Free Expression’s (CFE) Advisory Board.

“We are delighted that Sharon Day is joining our Advisory Board,” said James L. Turk, Director of the CFE. “She is one of the leading champions of intellectual freedom in Canada and has played a major role in developing CFE’s Intellectual Freedom Learning and Development course, which is now used for staff training by more than 200 public libraries across Canada.”

Day has spent 17 years at EPL, advancing through a number of increasingly senior positions. Prior to joining EPL, she served as Acting Director of the John M. Cuelenaere Public Library in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

She holds a Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) from the University of Alberta. Nationally, Day has led digital content advocacy through the Canadian Urban Libraries Council and served on the Board of Directors of eBOUND Canada.

Headquartered at Toronto Metropolitan University, the Centre for Free Expression works to ensure that the rights to freedom of expression, informed civic engagement, individual self-development, and social justice are a reality for all. The Centre pursues this mission through public education, advocacy, research, law reform, advisory services, policy analysis, court assistance, and organizational collaborations.
