Meghan McDermott Joins CFE Board

Meghan McDermott, interim policy director for the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association, is joining the Centre for Free Expression Advisory Board. Meghan has a B.A. in philosophy from Concordia University, a J.D. from the University of Victoria, and LL.M. from the University of Edinburgh where her work focused on whether parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change have a responsibility to share the benefits of their forestry-related activities with local and Indigenous communities. 

Prior to joining the BCCLA as counsel (policy) in2017, Meghan worked for many years as an advisor with the government of British Columbia, developing environmental and health policy and legislation. She has also provided legal services for the government of Ontario and interned as a legal analyst with the Dullah Omar Institute for Constitutional Law, Governance and Human Rights in South Africa.

“We are delighted that Meghan will be joining our board. Her experience, skills, and current work at BCCLA will be a valuable contribution to our board and to the work of the Centre,” said James L. Turk, Director of the Centre for Free Expression.

Turk also expressed appreciation for Latoya Farrell who is leaving the CFE Board and the BCCLA to take up a Government in Council appointment to the Appeals Division of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada. “Latoya has been of enormous help to the Centre, and we wish her the best in her new post,” Turk said.
