Speaker: Sheldon Levy
Discussant: James L. Turk
Event Details
CFE Virtual Forum Series:
Google-affiliate Sidewalk Labs proposals for a “smart city” community on Toronto’s waterfront has sparked utopian dreams and dystopian fears. Although Sidewalk Labs has walked away, all of the issues regarding technology-centred urban development remain. As President of Ryerson University, former member of the Waterfront Toronto Board, and an independent member of Waterfront Toronto’s Evaluation Committee for Quayside, Sheldon Levy has been involved not only with the current project but with the larger issues of innovation in urban development.
Join James Turk’s conversation with Sheldon Levy in which Sheldon discusses issues such as: Is our appetite for risk consistent with achieving our innovative goals? How can we have a private sector led urban innovation hub that meets the requirements of the city in affordable homes, an inclusive and welcoming community – an innovation hub that provides new opportunities for Canadian companies and contributes to the creation of new wealth? What is the role of government in the development and ongoing operations of such projects?
