Event Details
Facial Recognition is becoming overwhelmingly prevalent. Being rolled out faster than rules and regulations can possibly keep up, the stakes are very high. The technology is notoriously unreliable, rampant with errors, biased, and discriminatory -- particularly its inability to recognize people of colour, even though largely used to target and monitor marginalized communities. If your accounts are compromised, you can change your password. But if a facial recognition database is compromised, you can't change your face. What does consent look like, in an era of facial recognition? What rules need to be in place to keep us safe? Can it ever be used 'responsibly'?
